World War One-vintage French sewing patterns for mourning dress





During World War One in 1915 in the Edwardian era, Mode Pratique magazine contained a number of articles on Dresses and outfits for Mourning.  In French mourning  is known as le Deuil. Vintage French sewing patterns were found in the magazine, sometimes in pre-cut form, sometimes as large sewing pattern sheets. The magazine above contains a number of illustrations for mourning dress-including hats, muffs and coats. Some were for Le Grand Deuil…this is is the first mourning period – and some were for the later stages of mourning which followed a protocol of dress.
